Tentative Agreement On Contract
The United Faculty of Florida-Graduate Assistants United chapter at Florida A&M University has reached an agreement with the FAMU Board of Trustees on a new contract. This is the first contract negotiated locally with FAMU. Since 1998, FAMU graduate employees had negotiated with the Florida Board of Regents. The last Board of Regents/UFF-GAU contract expired in 2003. On January 8, 2008 the GAU bargaining team came to an agreement with university representatives for a three-year collective bargaining agreement. Salary will be re-opened every year, as well as any two issues each side wants to negotiate.
Ratification Vote Scheduled
All FAMU Graduate, Research and Teaching Assistants, vote to approve our new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Voting on the ratification of the UFF-FAMU-GAU collective bargaining agreement will be as follows
- Voting on February 19-20, 2008, 10am till 2pm
- Perry Paige 2nd floor lobby
- Tucker Hall 1st floor lobby
- FAMU/FSU Engineering Bldg
- Science Research Center 2nd floor lobby

UFF-FAMU-GAU Wins Health Insurance and Raise -- First Local Contract a Major Victory!!
Over 400 graduate employees of the university, which include graduate assistants, research assistants, and teaching assistants are affected by the contract. GAU negotiators were able to obtain
- full coverage for health insurance premium (for the first time),
- a $1000 increase in the stipend minimum,
- a 2% across the board increase raise for all graduate employees.
The contract maintained essential rights and protections for graduate employees including
- tuition waivers,
- a democratic process to address violations of the contract (grievance procedure.
